Abstract

Introduction: Physical inactivity is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Total hip arthroplasty (THA) can restore a patient’s exercise capability and thus reduce their risk of co-existing disease. The demand for primary THA is predicted to rise exponentially by 2030, and although the procedure has high rates of overall patient satisfaction, participation in recreational activities has been previously identified as an area of dissatisfaction in up to 39% of patients. Given the burden of physical inactivity on the health system, more needs to be known about patient perspectives on returning to physical activity after THA.
