Abstract

The purpose of this study was a rigorous investigation of the probabilistic relationships between the resistance of a reinforced concrete member and the strength of its constituent materials. Attention was centered on the flexural resistance of singly and doubly reinforced beam sections. An assessment of the recommendations of the American Concrete Institute Building Code with respect to variability in material strengths was made. Methodology rather than specific results were stressed in this paper.
