Abstract

Losartan, a selective antagonist of the angiotensin-receptor subtype 1 is a recently introduced antihypertensive agent which may be of particular use for those patients intolerant of angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Losartan may be interchangeable with ACE inhibitors both in terms of efficacy and long-term patient benefit. We wish to report the failure of losartan to control hypertension in a patient with scleroderma renal crisis (the onset of accelerated arterial hypertension and/or rapidly progressive oliguric renal failure during the course of systemic sclerosis 1 Steen VD Renal involvement in systemic sclerosis.
