Abstract
This study conducted diagonal compression tests to propose the failure mode dependent shear strength for unreinforced concrete brick wall panels. The test variable was the bed-joint mortar mixing ratio. Six brick wall panels were manufactured for each variable, and finally thirty specimens were tested. The test results showed five failure modes in the unreinforced masonry wall panels: diagonal tension, combined, bed-joint sliding, toe crushing, and non-diagonal failure. Furthermore, the shear strength of unreinforced brick wall panels was highly dependent on the failure mode. Based on the test results, the shear strength is suggested according to each failure mode. Additionally, the shear modulus of concrete brick wall panels was suggested as half of the value presented in the current codes for masonry structures.
