Abstract

Rates of new HIV infections among men who have sex with men (MSM) continue to increase in conjunction with rates of unprotected anal intercourse (UAI). Reported strategies for reducing risk while still engaging in UAI include serosorting, whereby only seroconcordant individuals are selected as sexual partners; strategic positioning, in which serodiscordant partners assume sexual positions aimed at minimizing HIV transmission; and negotiation around viral load, where HIV-negative men consider the viral load of their HIV-positive partner when deciding whether and how to engage in UAI.
