Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has shown a significant increase among children and adolescents in recent decades, especially due to factors such as sedentary lifestyle and obesity. The Covid-19 pandemic has intensified these factors, resulting in an alarming scenario for global public health. This article carries out a systematic review of the literature, with the aim of identifying the main factors that influence the increase in T2DM cases in this age group. The analysis includes studies that address aspects related to lifestyle, dietary practices, and the direct and indirect impacts of the pandemic on the development of the disease. It is concluded that public health promotion policies, combined with preventive strategies, are essential to combat the advancement of T2DM in young people, in addition to highlighting the importance of future research that can deepen knowledge about the management and prevention of the disease in pediatric populations.
