Abstract

AbstractThe sandy, wooded, marshy outwash plains known as polesies occupy large areas of European Russia. Waterlogging and swamp formation are promoted by their location in geological troughs and in areas of excess atmospheric moisture as well as by deforestation and other man-made factors. The polesies represent an unused virgin land resource that could be used for growing fodder crops after drainage.
