Abstract

This paper deals in a concise manner with the two basic factors to which oil occurrence is intimately related, namely, basin architecture and conditions of environment within the basin. These two major headings in turn cover such fundamental subjects as (a) the crustal framework of the earth, and the development and classification of basins; and (b) the world-wide and basinwise distribution of oil, especially as determined by environment and resultant source-reservoir relationships.
