Abstract

Patients with morbid obesity, defined as a body mass index of greater than 40 kg/m2 and super obesity defined as a body mass index of greater than 50 kg/m2, increasingly present for total hip replacements. These individuals incur greater costs, surgical risks, and present greater technical challenges in delivering a successful outcome. This article presents data upon which to guide treatment choice and help improve outcomes.
