Abstract

Dentists, especially general practitioners , in the New England states tend to establish practices in the states in which they were born or where they attended high school. A shortage of dentists was given frequently as a factor in making this choice. Other factors that influenced the choice of location were living conditions and educational opportunities for children. Dental organizations were seldom consulted. Other dentists, dental supply houses, family, and friends were considered by many as the best sources of information when the decision to establish a practice is made.
