Abstract

Disasters are evolving and creating impacts in new shapes and sizes with each passing year. Identification and clear understanding of the various significant factors is required for the development of appropriate policies and strategies for disaster risk reduction. There were few empirical investigations that established causative variables in the desired field. The literature was reviewed in the research area with due consideration to multidisciplinary nature of disaster management and after analyses and synthesis recurring factors were identified and summarized in the paper. Understanding underlying factors having influence on formulations of various strategies and policies can add new dimensions and values to the multidisciplinary nature of disaster management.
