Abstract

Six varieties of eggplant which differed in maturity and other characters were diallel-crossed without reciprocals. Eight characters shown in Table 1 were measured and comparisons were made between the mean of all F1's and the mean of all parent varieties (Table 2). The F1's generally showed heterosis in three characters : the stem length on the 92 nd day after seeding, the early yield, and the total yield. On the other hand, in the other five characters the F1's were generally close to their mid-parents.
