Abstract

A study was conducted to study the effect of growth regulators on propagation of Calliandra haematocephala Hassk. This was carried out by treating the hardwood cuttings with different growth regulator concentrations and combinations by using quick dip (<5 seconds) method. The cuttings were planted in the polybags containing soil after growth regulator treatments viz. T1: NAA1000 mg/L, T2: NAA 1500 mg/L, T3: NAA 2000 mg/L, T4: IBA1000 mg/L, T5: IBA 1500 mg/L, T6: IBA 2000 mg/L, T7: NAA 1000 mg/L + IBA 500 mg/L, T8: NAA 500 mg/L + IBA 1000 mg/L, T9: NAA 1000 mg/L + IBA1000 mg/L and T10: Control. The hardwood cuttings of C. haematocephala treated with IBA (2000 mg/L) resulted in the maximum sprouting at 60 days after planting. The treatment of hardwood cuttings with IBA (2000 mg/L) resulted in the maximum average number of shoots (1.51), length of shoot (3.70 cm), number of leaves (3.36), number of roots (3.55), root length (9.63 cm) and per cent survival (60%) of plants.
