Abstract

Abstract : The paper reviews and discusses the implications of a series of experiments germane to the use of simulators for training purposes. Problems of measuring transfer of training are briefly discussed, and a series of nine experiments is summarized. Each of these experiments is concerned with visual or environmental factors which can affect the usefulness of a training simulator. The results obtained are discussed, and their limitations and fields of application are stated. A number of conclusions are presented, those chiefly of interest to designers and those chiefly of interest to users being given separately. (Author)
