Abstract
The infra-red spectra of four unidentate and five bidentate cobalt (III) carbonato complexes have been studied as Nujol and hexachlorobutadiene mulls and as alkali halide disks. Splitting of the degenerate vibrations is greater in bidentate than in unidentate complexes, but the intensity of the forbidden transition is not. The results of treating the complexed system independently of, and including, the metal atom are compared.
