Abstract

Hickling, E.M., 1986. Factors affecting the acceptability of head protection at work. Journal of Occupational Accidents, 8: 193–206. A model of factors affecting acceptability for the wearer of head protection is advanced. That these factors are in practice affecting acceptability of industrial safety helmets is demonstrated and comment is made on the current state of knowledge for the factors identified. It is concluded that the factors affecting acceptability are now confirmed and that some problems of head protection wear can be addressed by revisions in equipment design and issue. Other factors need further investigation prior to the implementation of design changes.
