Abstract

ABSTRACT This project was launched as follow-up of a previous study conducted in 1984 on a limited scale with 14 variables used in the model and a restricted number of businesses within the Republic of South Africa (1). This study is much more comprehensive and includes several countries in Southern Africa. The primary objective is to determine which factors play the most significant role in the successful application of microcomputers by small and medium-sized firms. The secondary objectives are to ascertain to what extent problems experienced with the system previously still exist; if new problems are experienced; and to what extent the microcomputer system is being used as a decision-making and planning tool.
