Abstract

Abstract The stress corrosion resistance of the metastable beta alloy Ti-8Mo-8V-2Fe-3AI extruded and heat treated to high strength levels is examined. Salt water KISCC data are presented for both solution treated and aged (STA) condition and the direct age (DA) conditions. It is shown that the better stress corrosion resistance is exhibited by the DA material. Further improvements in the stress corrosion resistance of DA material are realized with forged product that has undergone a large amount of reduction. Fractographs and micrographs are presented to support the above observations.
