Abstract

Sufficient bone volume and morphology are required for proper implant surgery. Prior to tooth extraction, understanding the healing pattern of the extraction socket helps the dentist decide the proper treatment plan for the implant therapy. This article reviews the factors affecting the healing of extraction sockets. These include tooth site, bone thickness, tooth position, the presence of proximal bone, the dimension of defect size, and the etiology of tooth extraction.
