Abstract

Academic performance is assumed by some scholars as the concretion of learning, in this sense the level of achievement has some predictive variables of success or failure in learning. Variables such as those that are characteristic of personality or those that have to do with variables linked to the development of cognition, have extensive data studies, which however are not corroborated. In this research called Predominant Psychological Factors and the Academic Performance of Statistical Students, UNP, 2019. Its purpose was to establish the weighting of those variables that correlate with academic performance in students of the University field; knowing that academic achievements or successes are not simple since they depend on a variety of factors. The study was based on the theories about personality factors, specifically Cattell's approach, which proposing a multifactorial reading of performance, takes into account 16 factors. The study was made with 76 students of the National University of Piura, who study at the Faculty of Statistics. The research technique was the survey and the instruments were a series of questionnaires such as the Cattell Personality Inventory (Baremo prepared by Villanueva), the self-concept questionnaire and the assertiveness self-assessment. The instruments were duly evaluated for their reliability and validity. The results showed that students have a low level of academic performance; They also have a medium level of predominance of personality factors. The main conclusion of the research shows that not all personality factors are good predictors of academic performance, but if some, such as affability or assertiveness.
