Abstract

Objective To seek the second steps factor structure of Chinese version of Family Environment Scale (FES-CV) among adolescents. Methods Adopt a random sampling method, a total of 878 adolescents of 13~19 years old were measured with Chinese version of family environment scale, carried on factor analysis to 826 valid samples, and built up factor structure model. Results Factor analysis using PROMAX rotation revealed the eight subscales of FES-CV could be divided into three key dimensions:relationship, personal growth and stability, which account for 63.2% of the total variance. Relationship dimension includes cohesion, expressiveness and conflict. Personal growth dimension includes intellectual-cultural orientation and active-recreational orientation. Stability dimension includes achievement orientation, organization and control. The confirmatory factor analysis showed a goodness-of-fit index of 0.985 and an adjusted goodness-of-fit index of 0.967. Conclusion Independence and Moral-Religious orientation, the two subscales whose internal consistencies were very low, were not suitable to measure teenager's population in China. The results of analysis on normative pathways are satisfactory, which explains that the eight subscales of such measuring model provide good conception validity. Key words: Family environment scale; Factor structure; Adolescents
