Abstract

Conventional metrics based on Halstead's Software Science and McCabe's Cyclomatic Complexity have been studied extensively. A statistical procedure for validating these metrics is presented. This procedure is based on the factor analysis approach. This model also proposes a methodology to analyze large software projects with a single set of metrics. Results are based on 19 projects consisting of 14,348 routines. Data are taken from commercial software and previous articles. Projects show that few dimensions of complexity are measured by actual static metrics.
