Abstract
Publisher Summary This chapter presents FACT—a business compiler, and a comparison with COBOL (common business oriented language), and Commercial Translator. There are two operating systems associated with FACT. One, called Program Test System, used for checking out programs that runs over a program checkout tape, feeds in corrections, and then selectively loads the program, injects derails, and operates the program. At present nothing of this nature is described in COBOL or Commercial Translator. The other operating system is the Executive Scheduler and Monitor. This Executive Routine is used to search for programs that are to be operated in parallel on the H-800 to check that they can fit together within the machine, to assign addresses and peripheral unit addresses and store the programs in running form on a production run tape. COBOL has made no effort yet to describe common Executive Schedulers and loaders or checkout Executive Routines. Similarly, there is no information about corresponding plans for Commercial Translator.
