Abstract
Abstract The monoester of dodecanoic acid and 2,2′-dihydroxy ethyl ether (industrial mixture) is smectic at room temperature and may show particular facies. These facies are studied with a modified microscope. Sections across the figure by planes in two zones (perpendicular axis) are approximately circular. Therefore, the general shape of these facies is a Dupin's cyclide. A slight undulation superposes over this general form, with an amplitude inferior to one per cent of the radius of any of the circular sections.
