Abstract

AbstractOver the last 20 years, various pressures have caused modifications on the social and economic contributions of grasslands and rangelands in developed and developing countries. Developing countries have been experiencing a falling demand for ruminant products and an escalating concern to protect the grassland environment. In developing countries, the necessity for increased production has resulted in overgrazing and grassland degradation. This chapter reviews the solutions undertaken by concerned sectors in developed and developed countries in response to these pressures posed on grassland production. The impact of climatic change on grassland management, production and utilization for both regions is briefly discussed.
