Abstract

Utilizing trans-bis(8-carboxynaphthyl) functionalized Cu-porphyrins, a synthetic pathway for the preparation of stacked, heteronuclear cofacial single-stranded porphyrin arrays with the composition [Cu(porphyrinCOO)]2-[K2(MeOH)8]2+ (1) and [Cu(porphyrinCOO)]2-[M(MeOH)6]2+ (M = Mn, Co, Ni, Zn; 3-7) has been detailed, and this approach allows for the assembly of the individual components in several different orientations. Depending on the bridging metal complexes and the meso-aryl substituents (R), solid-state porphyrin architectures with a slipped (R = mesityl, M = K; 1), a twisted (R = mesityl, M = Mn, Co, Ni; 3−5), and an axial symmetric arrangement (R = 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl, M = Mn, Zn; 6, 7) of the porphyrin building blocks have been prepared.
