Abstract

Porous carbon monolith (PCM) has many potential applications, and usually was fabricated by the use of template, pore-forming material and externalpressure. This route is complicated, high-cost and sometimes polluted. In this work, PCM bas been synthesized by solvothermal curing of resol-type phenol-formaldhyde resin and following carbonization. The as-obtained PCM achieves highly 3D porous properties of surface area of 286.8 m2 g−1 and pore volume of 1.27 cm3 g−1. Herein, only anhydrous ethanol was used to act as solvent of RPFR, pore former and pressure source, and no other auxiliaries and templates were employed, making it simple, low-cost and environmentally friendly. Moreover, the morphology and pore structure of PCM should be controlled readily by adjusting the concentration of RPFR and heat treatment. This work has provided a facile and effective method to synthesize PCM.
