Abstract

Based on the analysis of the properties of vanadium tailing (VT), surface modification of VT with three kinds of coupling agent was carried out and the application technology as filler in polypropylene (PP) composites was developed. The results shown that the surface of VT was rough and contained much Si-OH. It is beneficial for VT to react with coupling agent. DL-411 coupling agent was more suitable for VT modification, which can improve the activity index observably. The tensile strength of MVT/PP composites was 47.5MPa while the impact strength was 38.4kJ/m2 when the content of MVT powder modified by 1.2wt% DL-411 was 10phr. XRD results shown that MVT had a heterogeneous nucleation effect on PP, induced β-crystal form formation. SEM analysis shown that DL-411 coupling agent can improve the interface between VT and PP matrix and interface debonding occurred in the matrix around the VT particles. TG-DTG analysis suggested that the thermal stability of the composite was improved by filling with MVT. The leaching behavior of heavy metals indicated that PP matrix had an immobilization of heavy metal elements in VT, and improved the comprehensive utilization value of VT. The way for utilization of VT is economical and environmental friendly.
