Abstract

In this work, TiO2-SiO2 nanostructured powders with different ratios of 80:20, 60:40, and 40:60 were synthesized via the hydrothermal method. A study of the physicochemical properties of materials was conducted using various characterizations. X-ray diffraction (XRD) method confirms polycrystalline to amorphous nature on increasing Si content which was further confirmed with TEM. The photocatalytic activity and selectivity of as-prepared materials were investigated for the oxidation of benzyl alcohol (BzA) to benzaldehyde (BzAD) with a 99% selectivity under visible light (385–740 nm). Remarkably, TS1 catalyst (TiO2:SiO2 in 80:20 ratio) displays high selectivity for the oxidation of benzyl alcohols and their derivatives to corresponding aldehydes compared to other prepared materials.
