Abstract
Novel ellipsoidal hematite nanostructures were successfully prepared by an ethylenediamine (EDA)-assisted solvothermal method. The EDA served as ligand and alkaline source, and facilitated the growth of α-Fe2O3 ellipsoids. The products were characterized by XRD, SEM, and TEM techniques. These ellipsoidal α-Fe2O3 crystals possess smooth surface, and have an average length of 360 nm and width of 170 nm in the middle part. It was found that the types of alkaline have a distinct influence on the shape of final hematite crystals. Magnetic measurement showed that the hematite ellipsoids possessed ferromagnetic nature with magnetization value of 0.64 emu/g at the maximum magnetic field and a coercivity of 178.9 Oe, respectively.
