Abstract
Reaction of enolizable aldehydes with p-tolylsulfinylmethyl phenyl sulfone (1), in the presence of piperidine in acetonitrile at O°C, gave selectively E-γ-hydroxy-α,β-unsaturated phenyl sulfones in good yields.
