Abstract

Biochar has gained considerable attention as a promising material for CO2 adsorption. Herein, cellulose-derived biochar (CBC) has been modified by incorporating layered double oxides (LDO) to enhance its sorption capacity toward CO2 molecules. Several characterization methods, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy analysis, have been conducted to investigate the effect of LDO loading on the obtained composite characteristics. The CO2 adsorption test indicated that the incorporation of LDO on the biochar surface significantly increased its adsorption performance by about 3 folds. This result offers a simple method to enhance the CO2 adsorption ability of biochar by incorporating it with LDO materials.
