Abstract

Magnesium hydroxide [Mg(OH)2] assembly spheres were successfully synthesised by facile coordination template method using Mg(NO3)2 and ammonia water as reactants in the presence of Triton X-100 and collodion film. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy were used to characterise the products. The obtained Mg(OH)2 nanomaterial assembled from nanoflakes was ∼1·2 μm in total size, and the length of the nanoflakes was ∼500 nm. The cooperation of Triton X-100 and collodion film played a key role in the formation process of assembly spheres. The process and mechanism of this assembly formation were discussed.
