Abstract

A humidity-responsive material of NaCl-added mesoporous silica HMS composite was obtained successfully by a facile grind method where mesoporous silica HMS had been synthesized via a sol–gel route. Under room temperature, the sample of NaCl-added HMS with NaCl content of 0.2 g/g showed excellent humidity sensitivity. The impedance decreased linearly by more than four orders of magnitude from 11 to 95% relative humidity and the response time was about 18 s. In addition, the effect of pore order in mesoporous silica on its humidity-sensitive properties was discussed and complex impedance spectra were investigated to validate the humidity-sensing mechanism of Na-HMS(0.2).
