Abstract
The best known procedures areoxidation of α-methylene ketones to α-diketones usingvarious oxidants such as selenium dioxide, pyridinium chloro-chromate (PCC), or potassium permanganate. Multi stepapproaches are also known like α-halogenation of ketonesfollowed by the Kornblum oxidation of the haloketonesusing DMSO.
