Abstract
Chronic facial paralysis is a devastating functional and cosmetic deformity that can physically, socially, and emotionally isolate the affected person from the rest of society. Current efforts in the restoration of facial nerve function focus on nerve regeneration, new ways to grade and evaluate pre- and postoperative facial nerve status, adjunct methods for finetuning postoperative results, and refinements of long-established surgical procedures.
