Abstract
Profile photographs were measured of 400 British male caucasians aged 18–25 years, comprising equal samples from each of the four major occlusal categories. Analysis of the data emphasized the importance of looking at the facial profile as a whole, rather than individual proportions or dimensions. Also, the data showed that discrimination between the facial profiles of different occlusal categories depends upon the relationship between the lips and chin to the nasion and hence cranium, rather than in relation to the Frankfurt plane.
