Facial Nerve Neuromas

Abstract

Facial nerve neuromas (neurilemoma or neurofibromas) are unusual causes of facial nerve paralysis comprising only a small part of the 5% of facial nerve paralyses produced by neoplasms. The neuromas are protean in their clinical manifestations, dependent on their site of origin, and diagnosis necessitates that the physician suspect the condition. Four cases show the full spectrum of symptoms from their varied sites of origin. Electrodiagnostic studies indicate some of the pathophysiological conditions involved with these tumors.
