Abstract

Facial infiltrating lipomatosis is a rare congenital condition characterized by mature adipocytes infiltration in the tissues and local bone hyperplasia, which can lead to important facial deformities. A 38-year-old woman diagnosed by clinical and imaginologic exams of the head and neck underwent surgical treatment to correct facial asymmetry caused by the disease through zygomatic-orbital complex repositioning and bimaxillary orthognathic surgery associated with mentoplasty and mandibular base osteoplasty. Despite the persistence of certain asymmetry, surgical treatment resulted in aesthetic and functional benefits. After 7 years of follow-up, stable results were found. The management of infiltrating lipomatosis is complex and must be individualized and involve a multidisciplinary team.
