Abstract

Biometric security, in recent years, has risen in popularity, although some methods are more popular than another. Recent pandemic that happened in 2020, suggested that humans should reduce contact interaction. As such, contactless security method, specifically contactless biometric method, should had risen in popularity and usage, especially on public spaces. Face recognition is an example of popular biometric security method, as used in smartphones and computers. On the other hand, public availabilty on such technology on public facilities had not grown as much as in consumer goods. To help further implementation and adoption for contactless biometric security method, this paper purposes review to the system usability and performance when face recognition is used as main security method, in comparison to other biometric systems (such as fingerprint) for public space storages. This paper also purposes involvement of Internet of Things (IoT) to be embedded on the implemented system on several functionality, such as receiving input, data storage, or even data processing. Overall system usability and performance will be reviewed by random participant with specific age range of 17–25 years old, using the system designed also in this paper. Results from review by respondents shown that participants still prefer to use alternative biometric methods, fingerprint, to be used as public space security method since it requires less time to unlock and had higher efficacy.
