Abstract

of abscesses of the soft tissues of the head and neck, involving about 3% of a Welsh hill sheep flock.The flock comprised 250 Brecknock Hill Cheviot and 100 Texel cross ewes. Most were homebred, although small numbers were occasionally introduced. Rams were purchased from local sales or directly from a local breeder. About 150 ewes were kept on unenclosed hill grazing. Ewes were housed for lambing in groups of 30 to 50 and fed in walkthrough feeders between pens. Contractors were used for shearing and scanning.
