Abstract

Ti-Zr binary metallic wires without toxic elements were developed by an arc-melt-type melt-extraction method for potential application as biomedical materials. The Ti-Zr binary alloy showed high wire forming capability during the melt-extraction process, independent of the Ti concentration. Therefore, it was possible to form rapidly quenched wires using Ti 100-x Zr x (x = 10 at% to 80 at%) alloys. Continuous binary Ti-Zr alloy wires had good white luster, negligible surface roughness, high tensile strength, and high bending ductility.
