Abstract
A basic stainless steel dewar design is described which can be used in a variety of experimental situations. With a 63.5 mm ( 2 1 2 ″ ) diameter neck, the dewar holds 4.8 litres of liquid helium for a period of 8 days. A large multi-purpose dilution refrigerator which has evolved from the basic design is also described. Liquid helium consumption of the dilution refrigerator is 18 1/week.
