Fabrication of ring groove on inner surface of cylindrical blank by ironing from outer surface

Abstract

This paper presents a new press forming method for transferring concavo-convex shapes of an inner plug onto the inner surface of a cylindrical blank by applying outer-die ironing from the outer surface. Finite element analyses were conducted for clarification of the fundamental performance in the proposed method. Thus, we investigated the effect of the conditions on formability, and showed the proper processing conditions for improving formability. Furthermore, the effect of shape of the protrusion was clarified in order to clarify the limits of forming.
