Abstract

We focus on the synthesis of microsphere-like MoO2 nanoparticles at here, which were initially prepared from common molybdenum powder via a facile hydrothermal method, followed by modifying molybdenum oxide nanoparticles with silane coupling agent 3-triethoxysilylpropylamine (KH550). As an appropriate amount of KH550 was used and microsphere-like nano-MoO2 was obtained. The morphology and structure of MoO2 nanoparticles before and after modification were observed by TEM, SEM and XRD. The possible interfacial interactions between molybdenum oxide nanoparticles and KH550 were also proposed. The results confirmed that the morphology of MoO2 nanomaterials was changed from thin sheets to microsphere-like after modification and high purity microsphere-like nano-MoO2 was obtained. IR and XPS analyses demonstrated that KH550 would play an important role in changing the morphology of MoO2 due to the silane coupling agent molecular grafted onto the MoO2 nanomaterials and binds strongly to MoO2 nanomaterials.
