Abstract

Metallic iron oxide nanoparticle-modified graphene oxide (GO) sheets were well applied for stabilizing oil-in-water (O/W) Pickering emulsion, because they were easy to fabricate via a redox reaction between metal salt and GO nanosheets. A systematical investigation was conducted on the impacts of metal salt concentration for preparing the nanoparticle-modified GO, GO aqueous dispersion concentrations and the mass ratios of GO/oil phase on the characteristics of Pickering emulsion. As revealed from the outcomes, the graphene oxide encapsulated GMA microcapsules (GMA@GOMCs) exhibited high loading capacity and thin shell thickness. Then, the microcapsules were embedded into water borne epoxy matrix and fabricated the coating which were capable of healing themselves over surface of hot-dip galvanized steels, as only supplementing a less amounts of microcapsules might achieve almost repaired completely. It’s expected that the GOMCs based on Pickering emulsions can be applicable in a wide range of applications, such as automotive field, weather and marine environments.
