Abstract

Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) single crystalline fiber was fabricated for the substrate of high T c superconducting wire by CO2-laser-heated pedestal method. Typical size of the YSZ fiber was 130 mm in length and 0.35 mm in diameter. It was able to be bent around the cylinder of maximum 40 mm. The cross sectional form of the YSZ fiber depends on the growth direction and the growth rate. We obtained the fiber with the (h 0 0) faceted surface, and it is appropriate for deposition of YBa2Cu3O7-y (YBCO) on this surface.
