Abstract
There are many advantages of the combined celluloid matrix—metal band technique. The diagnostic mounting allows the dentist to create an optimal occlusal relationship. The celluloid matrix allows the dentist to verify tooth reduction and band clearance visually. The keying technique insures proper band and acrylic resin alignment. The celluloid matrix greatly reduces the amount of bulk reduction and anatomic carving of the acrylic resin. The centric holding relief areas allow the dentist to define them in acrylic resin prior to occlusal adjustment. The technique fulfills all of the criteria of a long-term provisional restoration while remaining simple and practical.
