Abstract

Al-5Ti-1B master alloys were prepared by acting machining Ti chips, KBF4 with aluminum melt in this study. The effects of reaction temperatures and reaction times on the microstructures of Al-5Ti-1B master alloy were systematically investigated. The results show that the optimal reaction temperature and reaction time is 1173 K and 90 min, respectively. The refining performance of Al-5Ti-1B under optimal conditions is almost the same as that of commercial Al-5Ti-1B. The recovery rate of Ti using machining Ti chips is higher than that using K2TiF6 and the recovery rate of B is unaffected. The dissolution time of Ti chip has an exponential relationship with its radius and reducing the radius is an effective way to reduce the reaction time.
