Abstract

This paper reports a simple, template-free and cost effective method for the fabrication of Au nanoflowers and nanostructures with high yield. The key synthesis strategy was to use a KAuCN2 solution and a variety of metals (Pt, Ag and Cu etc) deposited on the Si substrate using e-beam evaporation. The Au nanostructures differ with respect to each metal that has been deposited onto the substrate. The surface properties of Au nanostructures formed on different metallic substrates were investigated by XPS measurements. Time course measurements by SEM were used to follow the reaction progress and the evolution of the flower-like shape. Such Au nanoflowers and nanostructures exhibited strong surface-enhanced effects which could be used in the design of efficient, stable and nontoxic Raman-active substrates for biosensing applications.
